The Psychological Reasons Why Humans Are Wired For Newer and Better Technology

Humans have an insatiable appetite for new technology. From simple tools like the hand axe to complex devices such as smartphones, human beings are constantly searching for better ways to meet their needs. But why? Are we just naturally inclined to appreciate newer and more efficient things? Or is there some deeper reason that humans are so drawn to new technologies? This article explores the psychology behind our addiction to new technology and explains why it’s natural for humans to be constantly in search of something newer and better than what we have now.

The Evolutionary Psychology of New Technology

Humans have always had a fascination with new technology. Since the beginning of time, humans have created new tools and improved upon old ones. But why is this? Why do humans have such a deep-rooted desire for new technologies? In order to understand this, we need to look at how humans evolved throughout history. Our brains did not evolve in a vacuum; they evolved in response to the environment in which humans lived. And since our environment has changed immensely over the course of human history, it stands to reason that our brains have, too. As far as evolutionary psychology is concerned, our craving for new technologies is the result of certain biological traits that were highly adaptive in our ancestral environment but don’t serve much of a purpose in our modern world.

The Incredible Benefits of New Technology

New technologies are often better in every way compared to older technologies. They are more efficient, require less energy, and can accomplish the same tasks in less time. New technologies also tend to be safer and more durable than older technologies, which can be dangerous or break easily. While older technologies may have been sufficient for their time, they often fail to meet our needs in the modern age. For example, you may be more connected to people now than ever before, but you may be using a communication tool that is several decades behind other technologies. New technologies are often needed because our societies are more complex than ever before. As our societies have grown more technologically sophisticated, we have needed to develop new technologies and replace old ones with new ones.

Continual Improvement Is In Our DNA

Humans are the only species that has the ability to modify the environment in a significant way. We’ve built civilizations, figured out how to cultivate food and discovered how to manipulate the world around us. This is what sets us apart from all other animals. While some animals use tools, only humans have built an entire world around our needs and desires. This ability to modify our environment comes from our genetic makeup. We have a genetic drive to continually modify our environment in order to meet our needs. What this means is that we have a genetic drive to build new technologies. We are able to recognize when something doesn’t work well and we have a desire to change it and make it better. In fact, we’re constantly trying to improve upon the things around us. This drive to invent and create new things is in our DNA.

Advancement Through Novelty Is Rewarding

Humans have also evolved to be novelty-seekers. This means that we are biologically driven to seek out new and novel things. We enjoy exploring new places, trying new things, and experiencing novel stimuli. When you examine this trait, it makes sense that we would enjoy the new and novel. In order to survive in the wild, early humans needed to be able to explore new places. And they needed to be able to try new things to figure out which things were helpful and which were harmful. If early humans only stuck with what they already knew, they would never have advanced as a species. In order to survive, early humans needed to be driven to explore and try new things. And this need for newness and novelty has remained with us to this day.

Summary

New technologies are often better in every way compared to older technologies. They are more efficient, require less energy, and can accomplish the same tasks in less time. New technologies also tend to be safer and more durable than older technologies, which can be dangerous or break easily. Humans have a genetic drive to continually modify our environment in order to meet our needs. We are able to recognize when something doesn’t work well and we have a desire to change it and make it better. In fact, we’re constantly trying to improve upon the things around us. Advancement through novelty is rewarding. Humans have evolved to be novelty-seekers. This means that we are biologically driven to seek out new and novel things. We enjoy exploring new places, trying new things, and experiencing novel stimuli.
